【摘要】:1GeneralThisBritishStandardgivesrecommendationsforandguidanceonthedevelopmentofon-screenuserdocumentationforapplicationsoftware.Suchdocumentationsupplementsthesoftware'suserinterface.ThisBritishStandardcoverstheprocessofdevelopingthedocumentationandgivesguidelinesforthecontent,navigation,styleandpresentationoftheinformation.2On-screendocumentationOn-screendocumentationinthecontextofthisBritishStandardincludesanyinformationuserscanaccessonascreenaboutthesoftwaretheyareusing.Itincludes,forexample:-context-sensitivedisplaysofnamesofuserinterfaceobjects(suchasbubblehelporballoonhelp);-helpstatuslinesthatexplainwhatthecurrentcontextis,orwhattheselectedobjectcando;-context-sensitivedisplaysofinstructionsanddescriptions;-setsofrelatedtopicsthatuserscanbrowsethrough;-free-standingdocumentationsystems.TheguidanceinthisBritishStandardmaybehelpfulfordevelopingthefollowingtypesofdocumentation,althoughitdoesnotcoverallaspectsofthem:-free-standingdocumentationsystemswherethereisnorelatedapplicationsoftware;-multi-mediasystemsusing,forexample,videoandsound;-on-screentutorialsandcomputer-basedtraining(CBT)packages.On-screendocumentationisfundamentallydifferentfrompaperdocumentationinthatitisnotsuitableforreadingsequentially,pagebypage,Inmostcases,on-screendocumentationconsistsofaseriesofself-containedtextsthatarerelevanttospecificsituationswithintheapplication.Thetaskofcreatingon-screendocumentationistoidentifythesesituationsandtocreatebrief,relevant,accuratetexts.3ApplicationsoftwareApplicationsoftwareissoftwaredesignedtohelpusersperformparticulartasksorhandleparticulartypesofproblem,asdistinctfromsoftwarethatcontrolsthecomputeritself.ForthepurposesofthisBritishStandard,applicationsoftwareincludesthetypeslistedbelow:-consumersoftwarepackages,thatis,softwareproductsdesignedandsoldtocarryoutidentifiedtasks,wherethesoftwareanditsassociateddocumentationarepackagedforsaleasaunit;-softwareforofficeapplicationssuchaswordprocessors,spreadsheets,databasesandelectronicmail;-businesssoftware,forexample,softwareforrecordingandmonitoringbusinessactivitiessuchasstockcontrolandorderprocessing;-specialistsoftwareforusebyprofessionals,suchasaccountingsystems,graphicdesignsystemsandengineeringdesignsystems.Theguidancemayalsobehelpfulfordevelopingon-screendocumentationforthefollowing,althoughitdoesnotcoveralltheissuesrelatingtothem:-softwareengineeringproductsforusebycomputerprofessionals;-softwareforprogrammableelectronicormechanicalsystems;-medicalsystemsandmanufacturingsystemsthatrequirespecialsafety-relateddocumentation.4OverviewThereisanoverviewofthecontentsofthisBritishStandard,explainingitsstructure,insection2.AnnexDexplainshowdifferenttypesofreadercanusethisstandard;itgivessimpleroute-mapsforthedifferenttypesofreadertofollow.5ProcessProcessrecommendationsareinsections3to7.Theycovertheseparatephasesofdevelopingon-screendocumentation.AnnexAgiveschecklistsforrecordingandmonitoringprogressthroughthedevelopmentphases.AnnexBgivescheckliststhatcanbeusedasthebasisfordocumentationreviews.AnnexCcoversevaluationofon-screendocumentationsystems.6Guidelinesforon-screendocumentationGuidelinesonthecontents,navigation,styleandpresentationofon-screendocumentationareinsections8to11.Readersshouldrefertotheseguidelinessectionsduringeachphaseoftheprocess.7ReferenceinformationAnnexEcontainslistsofbooksthatmightbeusefultoreaders.
